OAAA 2016: An Interview with Vicki Leigh

April 28, 2016     erinthebooknut     Feature, Interview, OAAA

Our second to last author is here an she is a returnee to this event! Welcome back to Vicki Leigh!

1. What have you been up to in the year since you’ve last been here?

Book 2 of my DREAMCATCHER series is out now! Yay!! Then my YA Contemporary, BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, is releasing on May 17 (under a different pen name: Tori Rigby). Now I’m working on a new manuscript, something totally different! I’m excited for its potential.

2. When you go to signings and book events what is your favorite part?

Talking with readers! I’m such an extrovert; I love simply chatting and being around people all day long.

3. How has your life changed since you started writing?

Just since last year? A lot, actually! I moved to a new city, started a new full-time job, reached my 100-pounds-lost goal, and entered a new relationship. It’s been a great year!

4. Do you have any time management tips for our readers who write?

I wish I could say I do, but I keep so busy that I simply write whenever I have a spare moment. The trick, I guess, is to just use every single minute to your advantage. Don’t waste time!

5. Can you tell us a little about Catch Me When I Fall and Find Me Of You Dare?

Sure! They are, respectively, book one and two in a series about a seventeen-year-old Dreamcatcher who gets caught in a madman’s version of the Biblical Apocalypse. In CATCH ME WHEN I FALL, Daniel (our main character) is assigned to protect sixteen-year-old Kayla from Nightmares, clawed, red-eyed creatures that feed off fears while people sleep. But these Nightmares take a deep interest in her, because someone with the power to control them seems to want her dead. In FIND ME IF YOU DARE, we discover that this warlock’s ultimate plan is to use Kayla as a version of a Horseman. And so Daniel tries to stop the villain from reaching his goal—and to stop Kayla from becoming who she was predestined to be.

6. Who were your favorite authors/what were your favorite books when you were a kid/young adult?

I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan, so J.K. Rowling is my ultimate favorite author ever. I’m also a huge fan of Cassandra Clare, Amy Plum, John Green, Katie McGarry, Leigh Bardugo, Richelle Mead, and Susan Dennard. There are others I’m missing too, I’m sure.

7. If you could recommend 3 books to your readers, what would they be?

Amy Plum’s REVENANTS series. HARRY POTTER–duh. And LOOKING FOR ALASKA by John Green.

8. How do you go about editing a project?

I revise in phases. After I write my first draft, I set it aside for about a week and then start at the beginning and rework what I feel doesn’t. Then the manuscript goes off to the first half of my critique partners. I edit after I receive their notes. The manuscript goes to the second half of my critique partners. I edit again. I send to a small group of beta readers, and then I edit one last time.

9. What’s next for you this year?

BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, my YA contemporary, releases May 17th! Then after that, I’m going to stay focused on writing Book 3 of my DREAMCATCHER series and hopefully finish that brand new story that hasn’t left me alone. 🙂

10. Anything else you want to talk about that we haven’t covered yet?

Keep your eyes on my social medias. I plan to do lots of giveaways this year!

Speaking of giveaways, Vicki has offered some books for ours so check out the OAAA giveaway to enter for the first 2 books in her DREAMCATCHER series!

From our shelves to yours,

Erin & Vicki
