Review: Holy Nerdgasm, Batman! I don’t know about you but I often have trouble with social situations. Until I found my fiance dating was hard for a little nerd like me. I wish I had had this book then. After my Quirk giveaway, a lot of you mentioned interest in this book. Some because of the cover and others because, well, it just sounds interesting. It’s awesome. Trust me, I’m The Doctor ;). Well, not really.
There are dating guides galore on the shelves, so why should this one stand out from the rest. Well, Eric Smith speaks my language, the language of nerd. What other guide will refer to the reader has “player one” and the prospective date as “player two”, and although it primarily uses the male pronoun, makes specific mention that most of these tips go both ways?
The guide is both helpful and entertaining, reminding nerds that maybe releasing their full geek powers on the first date may be overwhelming while embracing and celebrating nerd culture of all kinds. I especially enjoyed the section on book nerds, “If you’re a bibliophile, your eyes will immediately dart to the bookcase when you walk into someone’s home for the first time. You know you’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover (as it were), but you can’t help it. You’re only human (unlike the protagonists of the Twilight box set you’re casting your judgey glance on).” It just gets funnier from there. I appreciate you, Eric Smith, I really do.
This book relates to its audience without being condescending and gives good tips while being entertaining. I would recommend it for any nerd in need of some advice, or even someone who just likes a good dorky reference.
