Description: The Vampires of Manhattan is “hipster horror”–the memorable characters from her Blue Bloods series are older and cooler than before, trying to build “Millennial” lives in the bustle of Manhattan while battling forces of evil and, of course, each other.
Hero of this sexy, paranormal action tale is Oliver Hazard-Perry, former human conduit, and Manhattan’s only human-turned-vampire, now the head of the Blue Bloods Coven. When his all-too-human lover is found murdered on the eve of the coven’s annual Four Hundred Ball–a celebration meant to usher in a new era in vampire society, and to mark the re-unification of the Coven after decades of unrest and decay–Oliver is devastated.
Now, not only is he trying to create a new world order for the immortal elite, he’s the prime suspect and is stalked by the newly installed head of the vampire secret police. Because according to the new rules, vampires who take human life can now be executed. Burned.
How can an immortal sentenced to die fight back? He has to find the killer–and the answers lie deep in vampire lore
Could contain mild spoilers in mid-rant.
Review: What did I just read? I am having difficulty putting my feelings into words after this addition to the Blue Bloods universe. I really liked the original Blue Bloods series, I think I own the whole set other than one or two of the side books. Did I think they were amazing? No. They’re sort of a guilty pleasure of mine and they’re a lot of fun. Vampire of Manhattan lost everything that made the original series so good.
If I were to judge this book based on the first 30 to 40 pages then it would have maybe half a nut rating. This book is a “ten years later” situation and I would rather have 100 Deathly Hallows epilogues than read those first 30 pages again. Granted, around page 60 the book finally picked up but it’s really not enough to save it.
As for our characters, they’re in their 30s now and I’ve never wanted to see someone grow up less in my entire life than this and see what they have become. Oliver isn’t Oliver anymore, he’s not even close. Somehow ten years have turned him into spoiled, sheltered, super hunk. What? Where did that come from? The Oliver I knew was sweet and focused on doing what was right, not forcing some museum curator to move an entire permanent collection for  a one night party. Mimi and Kingsley are having a “trial separation” and Blue Bloods Mimi Force would be horrified to see how dull Mimi Martin is.
I’m going to interrupt this review to talk about a pet peeve of mine.

I really hate it when a relationship that we have spent a whole book or series getting invested in gets split up, even temporarily, in the sequel book or movie. Stop it!
There’s another character point of view in this book but I honestly don’t care about her. She’s just there for an outside perspective from the character we know and love…d. I spent the first half of the book angry at what my favorite characters became and the second half mourning them.
I doubt I’ll have any more to do with this new series. I was so excited when heard that there was going to be more Blue Bloods but now I’m just sad.

  1. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy it much! I can see your point on some of the things you didn't like about the book, but since you read my review you know I really enjoyed it!. I personally loved the growth in Oliver. Bummer. But I guess that is the beauty in books, that it evokes so many different emotions in people.

    • I'm glad you liked it, I think it's going to be one of those books people either love or hate. I just can't see Oliver as a sex god, it's too weird. Thanks for coming by and checking out my review.
