Description: Princess Eadlyn has grown up hearing endless stories about how her mother and father met. Twenty years ago, America Singer entered the Selection and won the heart of Prince Maxon—and they lived happily ever after. Eadlyn has always found their fairy-tale story romantic, but she has no interest in trying to repeat it. If it were up to her, she’d put off marriage for as long as possible.
But a princess’s life is never entirely her own, and Eadlyn can’t escape her very own Selection—no matter how fervently she protests.
Eadlyn doesn’t expect her story to end in romance. But as the competition begins, one entry may just capture Eadlyn’s heart, showing her all the possibilities that lie in front of her . . . and proving that finding her own happily ever after isn’t as impossible as she’s always thought.
Review: I have mixed feelings when it comes to The Selection series. I really enjoyed the first book, was really annoyed by the second, and thought the third was just ok. But the thing is I love this world. I love the concept and I’ve always thought there could be more to it if the main character didn’t drive me up a wall so much. So as soon as I heard there was going to be another book, one where America Singer wouldn’t be the main character, I couldn’t resist preordering it.
Princess Eadlyn is a character after my own heart. She’s stronger than America, she’s tougher, and she’s much more cautious. She doesn’t make the aggravating decisions that her mother did and I understand much better where her character comes from. It’s interesting to see the Selection process from the other side, to see it how Maxon did. I also like America way better in this installment than I did in the previous ones, even though she doesn’t have a massive part.
Something I really enjoy is the fact that I can see at least 4 likable potential princes in the Selection. Sure, there’s one that I prefer but I like that there are several guys that would make good matches for Eadlyn. I do wish that Eadlyn was a bit more aware of her people though. She tends towards the self centered side, a flaw that she eventually realizes. I can see a few paths for her that would do wonders for the country and herself and I’m glad that Cass is playing the “long game” with her character.
This book is the best installment of all of them. There’s much more politics going on and less of a pageant feel.  It just feels like more of a serious book with much more likable characters all around. Keira Cass’ writing has seen some serious growth and I’m unbelievably excited for the next book. The ending she gave us just whet my appetite for more books in the world and I need them NOW! Give me more Selection books like this one and I’ll be a happy camper.

  1. I am excited for this book! Author lives in same area I do so I am biased but I have enjoyed this series. Even when America is anniying. I have been waiting to see what others thought of this one so thanks for the review. One of my daughters is reading it now so my turn next

This one was actually my favorite in the series, too. I like not quite knowing who Eadlyn will end up with. With America you're pretty sure how it will end, while here I actually don't know.

  3. I'm starting this one today, and I am so so so so so so so so so excited. Yeah… that was a little too much on the enthusiasm. Oops.
