Description: Forgive us, Father, for we have sinned
Brooklyn Stevens sits in a pool of her own blood, tied up and gagged. No one outside of these dank basement walls knows she’s here. No one can hear her scream.
Sofia Flores knows she shouldn’t have gotten involved. When she befriended Riley, Grace, and Alexis on her first day at school, she admired them, with their perfect hair and their good-girl ways. They said they wanted to save Brooklyn. They wanted to help her. Sofia didn’t realize they believed Brooklyn was possessed.
Now, Riley and the girls are performing an exorcism on Brooklyn—but their idea of an exorcism is closer to torture than salvation. All Sofia wants is to get out of this house. But there is no way out. Sofia can’t go against the other girls . . . unless she wants to be next. . . .
In this chilling debut, Danielle Vega delivers blood-curdling suspense and terror on every page. By the shockingly twisted end, readers will be faced with the most haunting question of all: Is there evil in all of us?
Review: What the fuck did I just read? This book is so fucked up….and I loved it! Ok, maybe I’m a little fucked up too… but the point still stands. Going into this book I was actually not expecting too much. I was thinking a bit of mean girls and some fake exorcism crap. And for a minute it was like that, until all hell broke lose.
Let me start with this: yay a diverse main character! I was so pleased that she wasn’t just your standard goodie white girl. We get enough of that already, thank you for giving me something different! As for the rest of the characters? Well all of them are batshit crazy, honestly. I would have to say they’re not particularly realistic but in this case I don’t mind because their level of crazy is so ridiculous at times that it makes for a pretty intensely entertaining story.
Let me be clear, this is not a haha kind of story. This is an OMG that’s fucked up kind of story. And yet I just could not stop reading. I beasted through the whole book within a few hours. Was it scary? Well not really, but I’m not easily scared. Was it weird? Hell yes. Was it 20 kinds of messed up? Definitely.
Now for the ending. I actually didn’t expect it to go there. With these kind of stories I can usually predict the outcome and after reading it I feel like I should have known what was coming but I didn’t. Not at all. If you’re into shows like Hannibal or Supernatural the content of this book shouldn’t bother you too much. Honestly the things that happen on both shows are way grosser than most of the stuff you’ll read about in here. But still, that mature audiences only label isn’t there for shits and giggles.

  1. Oh nice! I still need to read this one. Thinking of saving it for October along with a few other reads that are CREEPY! LOL! Glad to hear that this one was "messed up" in a way! I love that in my thrillers! Though not in real life! Never in real life! LOL! Great review!!
