Book Haul: August 12, 2013

I only got four books today. Kind of a low number for me, seven is my average when my best friend and I follow our weekly book track. This is a weird collection of books.

The first place we went was one of the Goodwill stores in our area. This is the better Goodwill for books. They have a great variety and it changes all of the time. I got two books.

Portrait of a Killer, Jack the Ripper Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell.

Jump In by Mark Burnett.

Both of these books looked really interesting. I’m pretty sure I’ve read Jump In before. Maybe last summer. I’d like to read it again. I’ve read two of Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta novels and I liked them, so I decided to try something else. Jack the Ripper is one of those cases that catches the interest of many different kinds of people and each one has their own idea or evidence about the killer. Hopefully Cornwell’s is as interesting as the case.

Next we moved on to The Bookshelf, a used bookstore whose proceeds go to fund the literacy group Project Learn. These people know me now. I’ve been in their store once a week or more all summer. Lately I’ve been collecting Stephen King novels. This prolific writer doesn’t just do horror like everyone thinks, King’s novels span many genres. He’s written dystopias like Running Man, several mysteries, and even a fantasy. Today I picked up one more of his novels.

Firestarter by Stephen King.

This novel sounds strange and interesting. Two people that are subjects of a government experiment get married and have a daughter. This daughter shows signs of some sort of powers that she needs to learn to control but the government wants to use her. My kind of novel. I can’t wait to read this one.

The last place we ended up was a Salvation Army that has a fantastic selection of books. I managed to grab another Stephen King book that I’ve been wanting to get my hands on.

On Writing by Stephen King.

Half memoir and half writing master class, this book has been on my wishlist since I discovered its existence. I love to write as much as I love to read and I can’t wait to dive into what King has to say!

Well that’s all I have today. More will come with time, the hunt it the best part of thrifting. So to you, I bid a goodnight!

Happy Reading!
