Description: To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?

<span “>City of Glass really shows the terrible mistreatment that Downworlders have to put up with and it messes with the way the reader perceives Shadowhunter society. I love that dual nature of this series, that you like the Shadowhunters but they are in no way perfect. That in some ways you agree with Valentine that things are screwed up but you can’t agree with his methods. I really appreciate when a book can make you agree with its villain and yet still know that he or she is wrong. Because of this Valentine is on my short list of best pop culture villains.

I will not be continuing on to City of Fallen Angels right away. I’m going to wait until the release of the last book to marathon the last three. City of Glass is an excellent pausing point as it completes the story arc pretty well. I’ve already read the first two Infernal Devices books (they’re excellent) and I’ll get reviews for those up soon. I’ve gone from skepticism to becoming a believer in the Mortal Instruments (and now the Infernal Devices too). Where the first one may be good but not great, books two and three get progressively better. I’m so glad I picked them up.
