Description:

Darkness never dies.

Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.
The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

Review: If you haven’t started this series yet you really need to. I was very skeptical of the hype surrounding these books and resolved not to get sucked in by it. But the hype is totally accurate in this case. This series has the most charming men in YA, both charming and suspicious. I was so glad to find that this book didn’t suffer from the same pit falls that many second books in a series do. In fact, it may be better than the first one.
This is definitely one of those series that you have to read again to catch all of the clues. I still have so many questions that need to be answered in the last book. Alina is becoming less and less like herself and I hope she does something about it before she loses herself completely. The Grisha themselves are very interesting. Some follow out of fear and others for power. Where is their line and when will it be crossed.
Despite all of the awful things the Darkling has done and is planning to do, part of me still likes him. There’s still something more to him, I think, than what we’ve been told and I want to know what. Also, why is there only one Darkling and one Sun Summoner? That’s only one of many questions I have.
I mean it when I say that everyone should read these books. There’s something so rich and so different about them and they deserve every fan. I’m very sad that I won’t get to meet Leigh Bardugo at TBF when I go, as she is no longer attending. Still, I can say her books are definitely worth the read.
