Description: After a mysterious Sickness wipes out the rest of the population, the young survivors assemble into tightly run tribes. Jefferson, the reluctant leader of the Washington Square tribe, and Donna, the girl he’s secretly in love with, have carved out a precarious existence among the chaos. But when another tribe member discovers a clue that may hold the cure to the Sickness, five teens set out on a life-altering road trip to save humankind.

The tribe exchanges gunfire with enemy gangs, escapes cults and militias, braves the wilds of the subway and Central Park…and discovers truths they could never have imagined.

Review: Alright, give me a few seconds to collect myself. Here’s about how I was feeling using gifs….

Ok, now that that’s out of the way, we can begin. WHAT WAS THAT? No, really, what was that thing that I just read? Where do I even begin? Well for starters I found the writing to be juvenile. Not the characters, that I can get behind, kids are juvenile. But the writing style, the actual words on the page. It was just annoying to read. I keep putting my Nook down and going “Why did you just say that?” It was intolerable.
How about this Sickness, you know the one that only killed adults and young children. Wait, what? How in the world could a disease kill ONLY non-teenagers? That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. And when the teens turn 18 the Sickness kills them? How? Why? That’s…ridiculous. The mechanics of this disease are illogical. No, I refuse your premise, book.
I didn’t get past 100 pages in this book, the more I read the more frustrated I got. The author of this book is the same guy who directed New Moon and The Golden Compass. Perhaps he should stick with directing…or maybe not, that Golden Compass movie was awful. But this book either needs some serious revision at the very least.
I’m done complaining about this thing.

  1. Ha, another great review: how many times will publishing houses publish the same book–or rather, a bad book on the same theme we've read over and over again? I'm glad you're willing to call a spade a spade. As you can see, an established director can get anything published (or any celebrity, for that matter), and sadly, he wrote the most generic, expected thing possible. And this is what publishers think we should spend our money on? I mean, write apocalyptic fiction, by all means, but no theme or genre should preclude at least the most cursory attempt at originality or common sense.

Again, good, refreshing review. You should write a book (if you haven't already)!

    • I'm glad that you enjoy the ranting. Very rarely do books by celebrities turn out to be good. And they're often very random, did you know that Tyra Banks wrote a YA book? Why?
