Description: “I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”

In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.

As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth — meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.

Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.

Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.

But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?

Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win.

Review: When I began reading this book I had a weird feeling that I’d read it before. Oh yeah, it was called The Iron Jawed Boy and the beginning was very similar. I liked that book so I continued on happily. But you know, I think I liked Iron Jawed Boy better.

The great thing about IJB is the world is so beautiful and that’s what I expected from this. However I didn’t see a whole lot of solid world building, I felt like a lot of it was just sort of thrown at me with no structure or explanation. I wanted more description, about everything. What we got I really liked and I wish I could have seen more.

I don’t even know a whole lot about the main character. Parents dead, lots of masters, magic powers. Cool. What else? There has to be more than that, right? Admittedly the love interest is quite handsome, or so I’m told by the author over and over. But I liked him so I’ll give him a pass.

As far as character and world I feel like this can sometimes feel like a middle draft. The building doesn’t feel finished for complete. It has a good story but there’s a lot more to a book than just a plot. If you’re going to pull off a book like this you need a solid world for the story to stand on and fuller characters to drive it.

While I did enjoy the book to an extent I found a few problems that, if fixed, the book would have benefited from quite a bit.
