Description: In Sloane’s world, true feelings are forbidden, teen suicide is an epidemic, and the only solution is The Program.

Sloane knows better than to cry in front of anyone. With suicide now an international epidemic, one outburst could land her in The Program, the only proven course of treatment. Sloane’s parents have already lost one child; Sloane knows they’ll do anything to keep her alive. She also knows that everyone who’s been through The Program returns as a blank slate. Because their depression is gone—but so are their memories.

Under constant surveillance at home and at school, Sloane puts on a brave face and keeps her feelings buried as deep as she can. The only person Sloane can be herself with is James. He’s promised to keep them both safe and out of treatment, and Sloane knows their love is strong enough to withstand anything. But despite the promises they made to each other, it’s getting harder to hide the truth. They are both growing weaker. Depression is setting in. And The Program is coming for them.

Review: This book is like a nice sedative, it put me right to sleep. I made it through about 120 pages before I had to put it down. I immediately put it up for trade. The story is just so dull. I didn’t feel like there was any kind of urgency going on to keep me interested. The plot just sort of lolls along at a snail’s pace an you just hope that someone is going to die so something will actually happen.

The characters are really bland. I couldn’t bring myself to care about their situation or feelings. The romance felt pretty forced, almost painful. It’s not working, let it go please. There are plenty of guys with hidden angst for you to attach yourself to. Annnd go!

This is not a dystopian. You hardly see the government and they spend the first hundred pages going back and forth from school. Goodnight, wake me up when something happens. I just couldn’t take it anymore, I’m already in a reading slump as it is. I really couldn’t dally with a book I couldn’t enjoy.

Someone who finished the book, does it get any better? I’m going to go get an espresso shot and find something else to read.

  1. Awww I am sorry this one didn't work out for you. I agree that it was slow, it doesn't really pick up to the very end. I loved how it delt with depression in teens and suicide. If you are willing to give Suzanne another try The Remedy (.5 in this series) was fast paced and the characters were really well done. I hope you next book works out for you!
