Cover Talk: Dark Triumph Paperback

February 14, 2016     erinthebooknut     Cover Talk, Feature, Rant

Hi guys! Welcome to Cover Talk, a new feature I want to start. As the feature title suggests, I’m going to be talking about covers: the good, the bad, and the ugly. And our first cover is both bad and a little bit ugly.

000000

This is the cover for the paperback edition of Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers. At first glance this cover doesn’t seem so bad. The more you look at it though, something starts to seem off.

And then you see it.

The hair.

What the hell happened to Sybella’s hair? IT looks like someone pasted it on like a collage. There’s no blending at all, the hair and only the hair sticks out like a sore thumb.

This is the original cover, the one from the hardcover:

9943270

Maybe Sybella should keep her hood on.

My biggest issue is how was the paperback cover allowed to go through? It looks unfinished, or like they just completely forgot about it. Which is sad because the rest of the cover looks fine. But my eye is forever drawn to the hair and I can’t get past it.

This cover is judged: BAD!

I kind of wonder why it was changed in the first place? I don’t think the first book’s paperback is different. (I just looked, it’s not). So why? I’m confuzzled.

Give me some other covers to feature here (especially bad/ugly ones) and I’ll discuss why. Which covers should I do? Please comment.

From my shelf to yours,
