Werewolf in trouble...

Biffy, newly minted Alpha of the London Pack, is not having a good Christmas. His Beta abandoned him, his werewolves object to his curtain choices, and someone keeps leaving babies on his doorstep.

Professor Randolph Lyall returns home to London after twenty years abroad, afraid of what he might find. With his pack in chaos and his Alpha in crisis, it will take all his Beta efficiency to set everything to rights. Perhaps, in the process, he may even determine how to mend his own heart.

New York Times bestselling author Gail Carriger presents a charming love story set in her popular steampunk Parasolverse. Featuring the long-awaited reunion between everyone’s favorite quietly capable Beta and the werewolf Alpha dandy who let him slip away.

This sweet romance is full of unexpected babysitting, holiday decorations, and no small amount of pining. Look for surprise appearances from popular side characters and the occasional strategic application of italics.

The Supernatural Society novellas stand alone and may be read in any order. But if you’re a stickler, this story chronologically follows Imprudence, and ties specifically to events in Timeless.

Delicate Sensibilities?

Contains men who love other men and have waited decades to do so.

5 Nuts

I would give this book 6 nuts is such a thing existed. That’s not a joke or exaggeration, I loved this book that much. While it’s the second of the Supernatural Society novellas, it is without doubt first in my heart and probably my favorite piece of Parasolverse writing.

ROMANCING THE WEREWOLF has a lot of things going for it. First, it’s Biffy centric. If there’s anything you should have learned by now after all these reviews it’s that I adore Biffy with all my heart. The man is just too sweet for words, the most precious of cinnamon rolls.

Second is Lyall, our calm Beta love interest. His relationship with Biffy is all sweetness, trust, and cream. It’s one of those ships that just makes you happy. Lyall and Biffy are a perfect match, and so civilized they set themselves apart from the rest of the pack. I just really enjoy reading about them.

Third is this overarching plot. Yes, this steamy little read actually has a plot outside the romantic elements. Nothing is more adorable to me than a bunch of werewolves running around trying to take care of a bunch of human babies. It has to be one of the most hilarious and endearing things I have ever read. I absolutely fell in love with the pack in all their enthusiastic, protective awkwardness. Seriously, my heart might explode.

Fourth, of course, is the steaminess. Yes of course there’s steaminess. It’s a Carriger novella after all! Biffy is not a hard Alpha. Well, not in THAT way but certainly in others ;).  But he is all calm, cool control. Lyall gives him the ability to let loose a little and their encounter is as sweet as anything else these two weremuffins do. (Yes, I said weremuffins, fight me).

Fifth is something I never expected in this story. Biffy gets to be a large and in charge Alpha werewolf, complete with defending his position. Yet he is always our Biffy, doing what he must even when it’s not what he would like. He makes hard decisions and makes them well.

I have both the physical version of this book and the audio, both of which I will probably revisit repeatedly. Though the book is self published, you would be wrong in thinking the book or the audio are any lesser quality than those produced by a traditional house. The narrator does a fantastic job in his reading and delivery. His characterization is completely on point and I want to go back and listen again just for the joy of it instead of for purposes of review.

If there’s one Parasolverse novella you have to read, it’s this one. Not only is it a great romantic piece but it furthers the reader’s understanding of the werewolf pack and how they operate. Plus the plot is just too adorable and enjoyable for words.

Which novella would you say is a must read? Share your pick in the comments.

From my shelf to yours.
