Sophie, who works at the hotel as an intern, is busy making sure that everything goes according to plan. But unexpected problems keep arising, and some of the guests are not who they pretend to be. Witty and charming, New York Times-bestselling author Kerstin Gier’s contemporary young adult novel A Castle in the Clouds follows a girl as she navigates secrets, romance, and danger in an aging grand hotel.
Way up in the Swiss mountains, there’s an old grand hotel steeped in tradition and faded splendor. Once a year, when the famous New Year’s Eve Ball takes place and guests from all over the world arrive, excitement returns to the vast hallways.

Very soon, Sophie finds herself right in the middle of a perilous adventure—and at risk of losing not only her job, but also her heart.
I’ll admit, this sort of book doesn’t usually pull me in — or is my cup of tea. But from the first page of A CASTLE IN THE CLOUDS, I was engrossed! I love the snarky narrator, Sophie Spark. It’s what kept the pages turning for me, along with some very interesting twists and turns that I definitely wasn’t expecting from a contemporary. This book really kept me guessing – is this character a jewel thief?? Is this other character a murderer?? And why is there a FORBIDDEN CAT? I had to keep reading to find out. Also : WHO WAS SOPHIE GOING TO END UP KISSING?? She had a few options, and I was definitely interested in who it would be.
From dealing with catty hotel intern students to sociopathic spoiled children, Sophie is funny throughout. This book gives you a good, warm feeling even as it keeps you guessing — and wanting to visit the idyllic CASTLE IN THE CLOUDS just for yourself.
Five Stars!
