Recommended Reading for the Political Climate

Worried about what’s been going on since the inauguration but have no idea how bad this can get?  Well your school reading this could tell you if you took the time to look at some of the books that might have been on it.

These books all have basis in realistic futures (well, except Animal Farm) if we were to let things slide.  Would you like to take a peek at some disturbing futures?

A world without Women’s Rights + religious government: A Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

A world where book burning are the norm: Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Brabury

A world of “alternative facts”: 1984 by George Orwell

Pleasure over truth: Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

Corrupt government taking rights piece by piece: Animal Farm by George Orwell

Corporate power: Oryx and Crake- Margaret Atwood

No individual thought: Anthem by Ayn Rand

Other reads:

Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman

Wind Up Girl by Paolo Bacigalupi

(Actually all of Paolo’s books make good reads for this situation)

And of course half of YA for the 2010’s (seriously did we see this coming?)

If you want YA dystopian recs leave a comment or tell me so on Twitter!

From my shelf to yours,

Erin
