Shalia is a proud daughter of the desert, but after years of devastating war with the adjoining kingdom, her people are desperate for peace. Willing to trade her freedom to ensure the safety of her family, Shalia becomes Queen of the Bonelands.

But she soon learns that her husband, Calix, is motivated only by his desire to exterminate the Elementae—mystical people who can control earth, wind, air, and fire. Even more unsettling are Shalia’s feelings for her husband’s brother, which unleash a power over the earth she never knew she possessed—a power that could get her killed. As rumors of a rebellion against Calix spread, Shalia must choose between the last chance for peace and her own future as an Elementae.

This intense, richly drawn high-fantasy by the author of Scarlet will hold readers spellbound.

We’re celebrating the release of REIGN THE EARTH by A.C Gaughen today! We’re so excited to be part of the blog tour, special thanks to A.C and Bloomsbury for having us!

When we were approached to join this blog tour, the lovely ladies at Bloomsbury asked me to write about who I’d want to “REIGN THE EARTH” with. In the book, Shaila is a strong, powerful woman who learns to harness her power.

When I think of strong women I’d love to reign with, I come back to one person : my 15 year old niece, Addie. (not her real name, but she’s a minor).

When Addie was born, my life changed. Sure, she was my brother’s kid, but my brother was 19 when she was born. Her mother was not the most stable person in the world, and we ended up having Addie for much of her formative years. I fell in love with her the moment I set eyes on her. I took her in my arms, and she fell asleep drooling on my chest. A bond was formed between me and my niece that day; one that is so strong and is so very important to the both of us. We’ve been best friends since then.

(me and Addie in 2002)

Addie has grown into such a smart, strong, independent young woman. From the time she could walk, she has wanted to do things for herself. She used to help me wipe trays at my former workplace when she was just two.  From that age she’s also been eager to pitch in and help in any situation and is a hard worker. When her younger siblings needed to be up and ready for school, at 6 years old, Addie made sure of it. She’s been a caring sister to her four younger siblings and selfless in giving her time to them. All the while she’s been a funny, happy, loving girl.

Now that Addie is a teenager, I am even more amazed by how driven and focused she is. She’s only 15, but she knows that she loves math and science and would like a career in that field. She volunteers, participates in 4-H showing chickens and crafts every year at the State Fair.  She balances all of this with being on the Varsity swim team, marching band, and her other commitments. Along the way she’s a great friend, a wonderful niece, and an all around fantastic kid. She’s my absolute favourite person in the entire world and owns one of the biggest pieces of my heart. I am so lucky to be this girl’s aunt. She has taught me so much about love, compassion, and friendship.

So why would I want to REIGN THE EARTH with my niece? Because she’s a super smart, compassionate, level-headed lady. But she’s also not afraid to get her hands dirty and take responsibility of a situation.  She’s strong willed (like her aunt), and doesn’t give up when faced with a challenge.  Exactly the sort of person I’d need to help me REIGN THE EARTH.

Who would you want to REIGN THE EARTH with? Let me know in the comments.
