Scrappy Claudette sets out once again with her pal Marie and her little brother Gaston to right wrongs and fight evil. And this time, it's personal. Claudette is out to get the dragon who ate her father's legs...and his legendary sword. But as usual, nothing is as simple as it seems, and Claudette is going to need Marie and Gaston's help more than ever.
4.5 Nuts
When it comes to middle grade graphic novels nothing makes me happier than dragons.
If I had to rank these Chronicles of Claudette graphic novels I’d have to say DRAGONS BEWARE is my favorite, followed by MONSTERS BEWARE (which bumps up to 4 nuts now that I know what’s going on) and the GIANTS BEWARE.
DRAGONS BEWARE takes care of the rest of the backstory needed to read MONSTERS BEWARE. We get to learn a little about Claudette’s mother, the backstory of the sword Breaker, the evil wizard, and Claudette’s own wooden weapon. Not to mention Gaston’s book of spells.
Aguirre packs a lot of information into this little graphic novel but pairs it with plenty of action and beautiful art. And dragons. Lots to dragons. Similar to the previous book, this graphic novel has a twist ending. This one just isn’t as in your face with the lessons. They’re still there though.
One thing had me really confused over anything else. Didn’t we already meet Marie’s grandpa in the first volume? Maybe this one is from the other side of the family. But I was under the impression this was the same guy. They’re drawn very similarly.
I really love these graphic novels, even though they’re intended for younger audiences. The characters are cute, the plot is funny and full of wonderful jokes, and the art is really pretty and colorful. It’s not stupid, childish humor so adults can enjoy it too!
I highly recommend these graphic novels, especially DRAGONS BEWARE. Of all three of these volumes, this second book is the one I want to keep on my shelves the most. MAybe I’ll have to pick one up for my collection, as the author is from Ohio.

From my shelf to yours,
