20 Questions Book Tag

June 25, 2021     erinthebooknut     Book Tag

It’s been a while since I’ve done a book tag. Honestly it’s been a while since I’ve posted a lot of things. on here. But I’m back and read to do some tags!

This particular one I found on Paper Fury’s blog but I have no clue who the original poster was. So here we go!

1. How many books are too many books in a series?

I’d say about 10. Personally if I’m reading a longer series I think 7 or 8 is the sweet spot. Once you hit the 9-10 range it gets a little excessive unless you’re doing spinoffs with multiple characters.  The one exception for me would be The Series of Unfortunate Events. I could take another dozen of those.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

Depends on how they’re written. A cliffhanger can really make a series or break it. A good cliffhanger makes me want the next book NOW NOW NOW! A bad cliffhanger makes me lose interest in reading the next book at all. It really does depend on the author and how they’ve put their story together. Sometimes a cliffhanger can seem gratuitous without purpose.

3. Hardback or paperback?

No preference. However I need the entire series to be in one or the other. I hate having mixed formats, especially if the covers don’t end up matching. They just end up mucking up my pretty sets.

4. Favorite book?

Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit are probably my all time favorites. I’m a huge Tolkien nut, to the point of having written one of my final papers in college about Tolkien and his use of Jungian archetypes in his stories.

That being said my current modern favorite is probably the BLOOD AND ASH series by Jennifer L Armentrout.

5. Least favorite book?

Twilight and everything related to it. Besides the fact that the writing is awful, Edward is a creep, Bella is made of cardboard, and the age stuff is kinda gross, the way she writes the werewolves and their “imprinting” is just so inappropriate. Even Rob Pattinson himself said he felt uncomfortable and like the subject of a middle age woman’s wet dream. No thanks.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Almost always NO. It’s a cheap way to manufacture drama within a story. There are much better ways to do the same thing without subjecting the reader to the back and forth of a love triangle.

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

THE WICKED KING by Holly Black. I know, I know. Shoot me. It had been so long since reading CRUEL PRINCE I think I just lost interest in the story. Maybe I’ll try again when I’m in the mood for it.

8. A book you’re currently reading?

EMPIRE OF STORMS and TOWER AND DAWN by Sarah J Maas. I reread a Maas series every year or so and this time it’s Throne of Glass.

9. Last book you recommended to someone?

FROM BLOOD AND ASH by Jennifer L Armentrout. I started reading it and recommended it to my mom before I even finished. We ended up reading all three current books together.

10. Oldest book you’ve read?

Probably The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer. I was THAT kid in school.

11. Newest book you’ve read?

I’m currently reading THE BOX IN THE WOODS by Maureen Johnson. I absolutely love her Truly Devious series and was so mad when they pushed this on from January to June. I can’t wait to finish it and put it next to the rest of my pretty hardcovers.

12. Favorite Author?

Tolkien. But Maas is a close second. Yeah I know, I’m trash.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Buying. Much too much buying. LOL. I have a bit of a hoard and am working on culling and cutting down the collection.

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Can I say Twilight again? Nah, I think that ship has sailed.

I’d probably have to say about half of John Green’s books. I could not stand PAPER TOWNS, AN ABUNDANCE OF KATHERINES, or WILL GRAYSON WILL GRAYSON. However I still really liked TFIOS, LOOKING FOR ALASKA, and TURTLES ALL THE WAY DOWN.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Bookmarks. Always bookmarks.

16. A book you can always reread?

Anything Maas.

17. Can you read while listening to music?

Nope. My ADHD won’t allow it.

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

No preference. I just want a good story.

19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Depends on the book and how motivated I am to finish it. It rarely takes me very long to finish a book though unless I’m doing the audiobook.

20. Who do you tag

Anyone who wants to do it.

From my shelf to yours,

Erin
